Designer Fleur Wood has created a boutique that works well with the clothes it houses. It is filled with butterfly mobiles and plush fabrics on Victorian-style furniture. No two surfaces have been treated in the same way and Wood has used see-through shelves and soft pastel colours to draw the customer's eye to items on display.

She has developed a style that she believes encapsulates her love for vintage fabrics recreated with a modern edge. This is translated to the space by the use of a feature wall, which is a series of layers and textures of wallpaper and paint from previous tenants of the property.

Apart from her clothing line, the boutique is filled with homewares, furnishings, trinkets, gorgeous gifts and beauty products.

There is also a certain curiosity factor to the store, Wood believes: "You walk in and you want to delve into the corners and seek out all the treasures it holds."

Create Fleur's look

* Don't be afraid to have surfaces unfinished. Plan for the unplanned and work with it.

* Search second-hand furniture stores for classic Victorian-style chairs. They may look as if they have seen better days, but a touch of paint and some quality fabric will bring them back to life. Place in a corner of a room to create an eye-catching feature.

* The use of mirrors in a small space will create the impression of a larger room. Place a mirror by the window to allow in light and views.
